Who are the Knights of Columbus?
The Knights of Columbus is a fraternal organization consisting of Catholic gentlemen 18 years or older in age, who wish to serve their Church and their fellow citizens.

How and why did the Knights of Columbus begin?
In 1881, a young parish priest, Father Michael J. McGivney, gathered the men of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of New Haven Connecticut. He was concerned about the care of the widows and children of departed church members who worked in the mines. Out of the concern for their well being, was born the Knights of Columbus and it’s insurance program, which is a highly rated insurance company today solely for the Knights and their family members. The Knights have committed themselves to serve their church, their country and their fellow man through the activities of the order.

Who are the local Knights of Columbus?
Knights of Columbus, the Verde Council# 2493, serves the Immaculate Conception Parish in Cottonwood and St. Frances Cabrini Church in Camp Verde and our members faithfully belong to one of these parishes. Our council has served these parishes for over 82 years. We started in Jerome as the Verde Council on July 8,1923. Later the council moved to St. Cecilia's in Clarkdale but now we are located in Cottonwood. We meet on the second Thursday night of the month at the original Immaculate Conception Parish on 421 North Willard Street in Cottonwood at 7 pm.

What do the Knights of Columbus do?
We award scholarships to deserving high school seniors from these parishes, we provide support to seminarians in their religious studies, and we support youth activities such as the Squires and try to fill the requests of the priests with the needs of the parishes. We raise funds annually with our “Tootsie Roll” drive. These "free will" donations are given to organizations that help the mentally challenged, such as the "Yes the Arc" in Cottonwood, Yes the Arc and the "Special Olympics" in the State of Arizona. We also sell tickets for our "Annual Drawing for Charitable Projects" that are used in the State of Arizona. We handle the advertising for the church bulletins of Immaculate Conception Church. These funds enable us to provide the above mentioned services to our parishes and communities.

Worldwide the Knights of Columbus have funded renovations to St. Peter’s Basilica, pay for the equipment and the air time for televised holiday masses from the Vatican with the Pope, and helped in disaster relief. We also promote the Crusade for Life, a program to defend the unborn against abortion.

Who can join the Knights of Columbus?
Any man over the age of 18 who is a practicing Catholic is eligible to join us.

What about the Knights of Columbus Insurance program?
Insurance in our order is voluntary. The Knights of Columbus offers its members many quality insurance products at affordable prices. You and your family can find financial security though whole life or term insurance policies, annuities, IRA’s, long term care and many other programs.

How can I contact the Knights of Columbus members?
You many ask any of our members about joining at anytime. If you do not know any of them personally, ask them at mass. Most of the ushers are members, that’s why we wear our green name tags to mass. You can also contact your parish office or email us at: grandknight@verdekc.org for more information. Please let us know how and when will be the best time to contact you.
